‘End of an era’ - John Danaher announces split of ‘Death Squad’ BJJ team

I actually think, as far as the team was concerned, Gordon was 100% a team player and wholly dedicated to the team and making DDS the best team. Gordon basically follows John and he has said as much. A lot of people are put off by Gordon's persona, but he is really not that bad IMO.

He has done some questionable nonsense and is a giant troll on social media... but all the guy does is cruise instagram, troll people who start shit with him, and train BJJ. I think he has also mellowed out from the shittier things he used to do. He still trolls a lot, but I think he has really grown a good bit over the last couple of years. I strongly disagree with his politics, but as an individual in BJJ he is a decent guy. In person he is almost always helpful and advancing the state of the art. He shows other competitors stuff if they ask, etc. Like, at a recent BJJ superfight event, one of the competitors ran up to Gordon after the match and asked him for advice on some techniques, and Gordon happily obliged etc. IDK, he doesn't do himself any favors in terms of his image... he just gets too deep into Instagram and beefs, but whatever.

To my thinking, guys like Rousimar Pallhares are much worse because they go out to hurt people, holding subs too long etc. Guys like Tex Johnson (rape accusations, etc.) etc... there are entire levels of shittiness. Gordon is just immature at times and kind of a dork on social media.

In the actual sport I don't think he actually has much of an ego. He backs up almost all of his shit talk. He is so much better than the competition some of the time it isn't even funny. He may not be humble about it, but it isn't ego when he backs it up IMO. IDK, that is my take on him. He also only really goes after people that start shit with him. To my knowledge the folks he trolls have, universally, started shit with him first (e.g. Andre Galvao).
