Which isn't a very good reason when this is a problem other companies have already solved. Encrypted pre-loads exist, and even if they didn't, frankly... who is data mining even hurting? Right now their system is just hurting players.

The downloads don't need to be out immediately when servers go down, but they should at least be up in the mid-evening for NA, not fairly late at night. I shouldn't have to set a midnight alarm just so that I can hope my download finishes by the time I get home from work tomorrow afternoon (because starting in the morning doesn't give enough time even factoring in my lunch and commute) and that the interrupted sleep doesn't cause any problems when I'm building aircraft parts.

It's frustrating because the US and Canada (the bulk of the NA data center) have pretty much the worst network infrastructure of the developed world, other than Australia--and Square Enix is well aware of this fact and still chose to put it up as late as they are. But Australia at least has the download available at a reasonable time. The eastern half of NA/SA is just doubly screwed.
