[England[ Can an employer get an enhanced DBS check on me without telling me?

i have been out of work (caring) for about 10 years, so i am new to the working life. I got my SIA license and got a job as a security officer at a university halls of residence (night shifts only) where students of all ages stay during term time and summer time. I got my standard DBS done as part of my SIA license and I got the certificate saying i have nothing to declare, as i expected, but the employer never asked for me to bring it to them despite my contract saying the role requires a DBS check? so i emailed them and they got back to me, and they said they don't need to see it.

I got the email from my boss so i deleted this thread since he said dont worry we dont need to see it, I am curious why not though? it is obviously clean but whatever I guess.
