That environmental warning scared the shit out of me

Sadly, Environment Canada's Tornado Warning is proof that the agency has chosen sensationalism over science to make itself more relevant to the public. The term didn't exist a few years ago because, according to EC's own criteria, it can't exist. Weather warnings are for weather phenomena that are imminent or actually happening in a given area. There is no way for EC to see tornadoes remotely, they don't show up on radar and don't last long enough to track anyway, so they can't prove that they are imminent or actually happening. The highest alert should only be a Tornado Watch which states that conditions are favourable for the development of one. Tornadoes do happen, but they can't be predicted. So, your phone is scaring the shit out of you with technically bogus information.
