Eorzea is the place I didn't know I needed.

I started FFXIV on a whim about two weeks ago, my last MMO activity being Lich King content in 2008.

I don't know what suddenly sparked my interest, since no one I knew was playing, and I'm generally not one for MMOs. But I looked for a friendly guild on reddit/fb, found one, and dug in. I started on the path to WHM, since I'm used to being a healer.

My first duty finder party wiped, and I apologized profusely, expecting to be yelled at or kicked, or for everyone to ragequit - as would probably happen in WoW. To my surprise, the tank insisted it was his fault and thanked me for trying my best. The others /cheered me on. And.. this seems NORMAL in FFXIV?!

FC mates routinely go out of their way to help me learn, lugging me around to new aetherites, sending me random presents, cheering me on when I get flattened by lv 50 mobs as a bystander and raising me so I can get the rewards.. I was so excited about the Moonfaire items that an FC mate (thanks, Raizo!) really went out of his way to help me out.

I had no idea what to expect. Sure, it's a gorgeous game, and the mechanics are fun (even crafting!) - but as a lifelong Final Fantasy fan, it's been so much more. Things like seeing moogles everywhere, Magitek armor, chocobos... And tracks like Sultana Dreaming and A Sailor Never Sleeps have made me feel ... hopeful?

Things have been kind of rough for me lately - going through what feels like the longest breakup ever, moving into a new place, feeling like I don't know who I am anymore, or what to do... FFXIV has helped me escape, and it's the wonderful people I've met recently that have kept my escape from feeling too lonely. Some of my FC mates are even near enough that I hope to meet them in person soon.

I don't know why Eorzea called to me, but it was exactly where I needed to be.

Greetings and love from Balmung.
