It majorly depends on the tear and also there's immediate pain and ongoing pain. I had an episiotomy first time round and was really quite sore for a few days and then kind of sore for weeks and ongoing discomfort in certain positions for months. Second time round I had a labial clitoral tear and the first few days it was absolute agony, really stingy and it hurt having a wee so much that at one point I couldn't bring myself to go. But after those worst few days it was absolutely nothing and no ongoing issues. There's lots of research though that natural tears heal better than episiotomy and that's why they shouldn't be performed unless absolutely neccessary.
