Episode Discussion: S6E08 "He Said, She Said"

I agree. I didn’t like that the comedic aspect of the case was “she broke his penis and he has Sesame Street nicknames for his junk”. The tone was just off for the whole episode, and I think trying to balance sexual assault with “haha she smashed his penis!” just didn’t work. The opening at the beginning hit on how awkward that was and it didn’t seem to ever find it’s footing.

Honestly.... I wish they hadn’t used this case to tackle the topic at all, and would have rather had the conversation center around someone at the 99 actually going through a personal situation. Like, if they wanted to add that to Amy’s backstory - why not have the episode about a new woman transfers to the 99 and Amy finds out it’s because of the same captain she had? Or they have to work with him and Jake doesn’t understand why Amy is so uncomfortable? Idk I just think it would have been better if the episode hadn’t revolved around a case that involved broken penises and Wall Street bros, and if Amy’s motivation could have been worked in better because based on what we know about her character up until now she shouldn’t have needed that extra push to want justice for a victim of sexual assault.
