Erekat: Recognizing 'Palestine' as a state is best response to 450 new settlement homes

The US is giving Israel one last chance in March to turn around.

LOL. You got all that out of the U.S. wanting to delay the vote until after the election? Wow, talk about wishful thinking. You realize that Obama is just playing you, right? He wants to distinguish himself from the republicans by pretending to be slightly to the left. That way he gets all of the left votes, while not actually being substantially different. He does this on every issue. In the end, he will support Israel, because that's the popular position (in the U.S. at least), and if he doesn't, congress will have a revolt.

Regardless, it doesn't actually matter. Read the same article you linked:

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine today opposed the proposal as the group said in a statement that the Palestinian Authority's motion “threatens Palestinian fundamental rights”.

What did they oppose? the Palestinian state proposal at the U.N. that gave the palestinians everything they could reasonably want plus a lot more than that. And the palestinians aren't even united in supporting it. Hamas came out against it as well. You vastly underestimate just how much the palestinians are demanding, and what they will settle for.

Livni, who led the last round of talks which she has said would have worked if Netanyahu hadn't purposely sabotaged them.

This is just political posturing from Livni. She's just like Obama--wants the left votes without actually being left. She's not going to agree to anything that Abbas is demanding like right of return or 1967 borders, so a deal between Livni and Abbas is just as impossible. She knows this, but if she can blame the failure on netanyahu, maybe she can get the PM position. In the end, the Palestinians will never agree to anything. They've had 70 years to accept many different reasonable peace offers from Israel, they're not going to suddenly start accepting them now.
