ESA proposes rebranding E3 2020 as "fan, media, and influencer festival" in leaked document

"Later in the deck, the ESA suggests leaning on what it calls "the power of social good", playing up the industry's "social good efforts" to attract influencers and celebrities who would offer "validation, attention, and excitement across media outlets beyond the video game space". It also says this strategy could be used to store "positive chits for future use" among consumers - which could, essentially, be cashed in against the likes of 'negative video game stories'."

"Research shows that Millennials and Gen Z are the most social-good generations ever."

"One tactic we can implement is partnering with influencers [celebrities, athletes, youtube personalities...] who are passionate about social good efforts like gender equality"

"We have something they crave for their social good efforts: attention and access to a platform representing the biggest industry on the planet"

"They have something we want: validation, attention and excitement across media outlets beyond the videogame space"

This industry is repugnant. Social media has already exacerbated the "Social Justice" War, you don't have to participate in putting a carrot on the end of a crusade. They want "good will" to function like a currency amongst their agents and for those agents to be propelled up the monetary ladder in proportion to the service of their bottom line. That destroys humanity, it turns us into animals and unravels society. They are looking to exploit this part of people, so they probably understand the consequences. They just don't care. This may be an outlandish and silly effort on its face, but that doesn't make it any less depraved. Someone actually thought it was ok to suggest doing this. What exactly is the problem with making an edifying game, showcasing it honestly and selling it with respect? Why does the world have to burn along the way?
