Escape from Hillsong: 3 years growing up inside a cult

It's easy to dismiss Hillsong from the outside as a bunch of happy clappers supporting a batshit corrupt organization.

What people don't often realize is, in terms of recruitment, they are very very good at what they do, and who they target.

Picture an international student, perhaps with moderate/generic Christian beliefs, feeling lost, lonely and overwhelmed.

Their day consists of class, study, work, and lonely calls to home. They're trying to make friends and build a life here, but it's so much harder than they thought it would be.

Now picture an attractive and charismatic group of friendly people, specifically targeting them with an overwhelming sense of belonging, community, and friendship.

Suddenly everything they wanted about life here is being offered up on a silver platter. They have instant friends, barbecues on the beach, people to talk to.

And all that's required of them is to submit to the cult. It's so fucking easy.

They are insidious bastards targeting the vulnerable.
