Why has Esports suddenly seen such a massive investment from outside sources?

First the skill ceiling in League is just as high as any other game. You have to beat 5 other players with in the same rules. League is a faster more twitch based game than Dota from a mechanical stand point for instance. No turn speed, more skill shots, more movement abilities, etc. Not saying it's higher or lower skill ceiling it's just different.... So your anti LoL stance just makes me think you are a fanboy.

Also your arguing a point that is absolutely irrelevant to the popularity and possibilities of Esports as Entertainment. Someone being able to beat someone else in a foot race or a physical competition means what? The biggest growing reason people give a damn at all about sports is statistics and analysis of statistics. Fantasy Football is a huuuuuuuge part of the NFL right now and you are just looking at spreadsheets.

I just don't agree that the natural physical ability of athletes is some how the absolute defining factor behind why sports in 2016 are popular entertainment. Strategy, statistics, preparation, execution, teamwork, rivalries, player personality all these things also make up why people are entertained by sports. Esports can have just as much of these things as traditional sports. I'm not arguing that anyone playing League, Dota, Overwatch, Cs go, Starcraft, Street Fighter are as good of athletes as LeBron James. I'm arguing that it doesn't matter if they are or not.... Tons of people like sports for reasons that don't require someone to be a freak of nature athlete to be impressed.
