[Ethics] In the past, Polygon writer Ben Kuchera tried to ruin Erik Kain's career for talking about emulating a Super Nintendo game. Nowadays he's defending a pedophile who hosts and distributes thousands of copyrighted gaming soundtracks.

I get where you're coming with this, but whether you want to call it an attack or not is irrelevant, what matters is if it is defamation or slander. The mention of "7 rounds of legal", suggests that they are taking precautions to ensure they are not producing a defamatory article, which so far, it does appear to be real, not fake. Of course, we'll see in the coming weeks, because if it is defamation, she would want to jump on that, but given the amount and length of the logs, it's probably real, if so - not defamation. Of course, you can disagree with posting articles like this, you may also disagree with papparazi intruding on the private lives of celebrities, which you're welcome to do so, but they still exist - although of course, there are numerous cases of legal action taken against them. Will we see legal action here? I don't know, it will be interesting to see if she claims the website of defaming her.

As for the actual claims made - I think Germany's stance would be a great one to adopt world wide - allow these people to come forward and be treated for their mental illness without fear of reprecussion when they haven't yet commited a crime. But that only works for people that know they shouldn't be feeling that way, and want to actually stop that feeling, rather than those that want to embrace it and try to deny anything is wrong with it - looking to justify it wherever possible, as Sarah has, indicated by the chat logs.

A pedophile who knows that it's wrong and wants to get help shouldn't be treated like a criminal, or be exposed in this way, it doesn't do any good - I think Germany is taking the right approach in this, but someone who has indicated a wish to groom children and adopt her own child and sexually molest them is someone who is past this sort of approach at this point. That person needs to be stopped before they actually scar some young child for life.

American stance - many countries have sex offender lists, not just America. It's by far no means just an American cultural thing. Sure, America's is the only publicly accessable one (well, some other states have partially accessable ones), however, there are many countries that have these registries. As this is takes place in America though, it's not really all that relevant how other countries deal with these things.
