European player vs Japanese player

For what it's worth, it's muscle memory and skill. Memorizing is something else entirely, usually another level above just being able to pass that level perfectly. I had a friend, back when I heavily played DDR in the early-mid 2000's, who would routinely memorize the songs and would show off by playing the songs with the arrows completely hidden. I couldn't do that, because I'm not that great at memorizing an entire song's worth of arrows, but I didn't need much of a look at the arrows for muscle memory to take over and move my feet where they needed to be at the right time.

It's kinda hard to describe the difference, but there's definitely a big one there.
