Is it even possible to lose weight in a healthy manner?

Vegetarianism doesn't equal ethical eating; it's one of the reasons I'm not vegan. Most commercial soy products are farmed in countries that don't have the environmental standards the U.S. does-- so they clear out swaths of natural habitats, drain wetlands and not only kill thousands more animals a year than U.S. factory farms, but destroy ecosystems and dump billions of pounds of chemical fertilizers and pest/herbicides into our oceans, weakening the ecological systems four oceans. And I can't afford ethically sourced, environmentally sound soy. We eat animals we've either raised ourselves or hunted. The only exception to this is milk; with kids, it's financially insane to spend $8 on a half-gallon of organic milk we'd go through in a single day.

I admit, I did a quick google on what keto was as I hadn't heard of it (called that) until you mentioned it, so I might be wrong about the actual dangers of ketoacidosis on otherwise healthy adults (I was under the impression that is you did keto wrong you could get it whether you were diabetic or not), but if you're into keto as much as you seem, you have to acknowledge that it is a) relatively new compared to other, more established ways of eating* and <most importantly> there is still quite a lot of controversy surrounding the efficacy of the diet, it's overall ability to supply the body with the nutrients it needs, and the long-term affects of the people on it.

You've come up with some very interesting rationalizations for your diet yet I sincerely doubt you can point to any data in your life that proves your diet has made your bodily health any better or worse. Don't bother, though - you can't prove a negative.

This is just rude. I wasn't trying to sound condescending to your lifestyle choices; if keto has changed your life and solved all your problems, awesome!! I'm super-happy for you! But, I have to balance what's important to me: my health, my familys' health, the impact we make on the world, and our financial situation. And I also have mitigating concerns like a mother who actually got very, very sick after her gastric bypass because of the high ketones in her blood. Doing a little research just now, I think she wasn't drinking enough water, but there was a knee-jerk reaction there on my first Google-search. Sorry if I did sound judgmental on your choices.
