Markios III stands on the steps of an Orthodox Church in Nicosia, still dressed in his plain clergy robes as he always is. As he begins speaking it doesn't seem to be going anywhere quickly. Markios spoke initially of purely religious matters and nearly put the GIAPF handler to sleep. Halfway though, however, Markios radically changed gears and begun to speak of politics.

Much to the dismay of Greek intentions he begins to speak against Eonosis and instead emphasises that Cyprus must not be divided on sectarian lines. In his speech he proclaimed that it is the duty of Greek Christians not to fight the Turks but to learn to love them as neighbours.

As he began to rhyme off various bits of scripture the ambush team receives the go ahead and prepare to strike. Unfortunately for the agents his speech seemed to have upset someone as Markios III is shot by a man in the crowd. The audience erupts into chaos as Markios is rushed into his car which speeds off towards a local hospital...in the complete opposite direction of his anticipated route. The team quickly tries to reposition themselves but due to the state of the panic in the crowd and the clandestine nature of their operation, the GIAPF handler called the assassination off. No one but the team involved has any knowledge of the operation existing.

Markios III's would-be assassin was a Greek member of the Democratic National Party as he made very clear in between shouting racial slurs. Obviously Markios's love they neighbor rhetoric did not sit well with this man. Markios is expected to survive the ordeal.

The end result of the speech is that it has drawn severl Greek Cypriots away from supporting the eonosis coalition and the DNP in particular. However those who remain loyal to the eonosis cause have lots almost all respect for Markios III and therefore will be much more loyal to Greece.
