Is it ever acceptable for a stay at home mom to say ‘we’re lucky I don’t have to work’?

My Mom always told me if I asked another women what she does to say “do you work outside the home?” That way if she is a SAHM it doesn’t get awkward.

That being said, when women talk about how lucky they are to be a SAHM, it feels derogatory to working Moms. Like we aren’t “lucky” or “blessed” enough to have that option. My best friend would say it all the time knowing that when my husband and I had kids, we would both be working. But they also struggled financially do that. People make the choices that are best for their family, but part of me thinks that when a SAHM says that, she is trying to convince herself it’s the right thing, not put the other person down.
