Have you ever been close friends with a guy who's basically in love with you and very open about that?

Yes, from both a guy and a girl. The girl was from before I was out. It was unfortunate, haha...

The guy is a close friend of 4 years, who has hinted at feelings for me for a long time. I always played it down and tried not to lead him on. I do not flirt with him. He got drunk a few months back and told me all about his feelings for me for the past four years. I gently told him I don’t have the same feelings. Ever since then he has acted really distant and morose. I don’t resent him for bringing his feelings out in the open. However, I am peeved that he can’t keep on being the same person with me.

I feel that if you have unrequited love for a close friend, you owe it to him to remain friends if he wants to stay platonic. Unrequited love is uncomfortable for both parties. But, if you are truly friends, you will treat each other with respect and affection despite it. My opinion is obviously very influenced by my personal experience and others will likely see things differently in this regard.

Also, you probably should not have sex with each other. It will have drastically different significance for the each person. That road leads to heartache.
