Have you ever broken up with someone you loved because you felt your emotional needs weren't being met?

I've done enough online dating to know the following. This only applies to online dating where you are meeting a complete stranger with no other connections to you (no mutual friends, etc).

  1. The first 1-3 months are bullshit. BULLSHIT. The person is on their best behavior and if you enter a relationship with this person, it will NEVER be like the first 3 months.

  2. As you enter the 4th month, you are starting to get to know the person. STARTING. If they are hiding personality traits or hobbies from you, they will start to leak out here and there.

  3. Somewhere from 6mo-12mo you actually get to know the real person. And keep in mind . .things between you will NEVER BE LIKE THE FIRST 1-3 MONTHS!!! NEVER!!!

Your timeline may be shorter or longer depending how often you hang out. Obviously this is not a science.

And the timeline isn't all negative, and it does NOT mean everyone is a psycho liar. It is ok to be walking on eggshells in the butterflies-in-tummy stage of a relationship, to be your best dressed, to always have your makeup perfect, to hide any negative feelings about your day because you don't want to bitch about work withs someone you just met. This doesn't make everyone a bad person.

But it's also extremely important in deciding on a future with someone.
