Have you ever 'forgotten' you're an aspie?

I forget that I am when I'm caught up in a conversation regarding an interest of mine. It works well in the classroom, especially when none of my peers participate in the lecture. I also forget when I'm talking with an old colleague or friend because I tend to use our past experiences as a basis for conversation (e.g., remember that time when...). I never realize it until later when I reflect on our conversation. It's especially bad if one of those pertains to a funny moment. My brother and I used to record television programs and rewind to the funny parts continuously, and I always feel like I can do this with people.

Here's an example:

I had a job as a host in a restaurant, and another new guy in the same position ticked off one of the servers because he kept calling her by a different name (even though all of them had name tags). I thought this was hilarious and reminded him about it the next day during our shift:

Scenario

"Hey, remember when you kept calling her Ashley even though nobody here is named Ashely? laughs

"Dude, shut up."

Continues laughing

(Sometime later...)

Me: Repeats the same scenario with different wording

Him: "Dude, that was a long time ago. Shut. The hell. Up."

Me: "Huh? It was barely a month ago..."

That was four years ago. Ironically, we became close friends and still are to this day.
