Do you ever upvote a downvoted comment not because you agree or like what it said but because you still don’t think it should be downvoted?

Man I do this a lot.

Honestly, here’s what I see happen a lot:

someone goes to a city reddit and posts an honest question: “where can we find good Ethiopian food?” or “Which suburbs have good dog parks?”

seemingly innocent questions, but on certain subs, you’ll see this question get downvoted to 0 or -1 or less.

I can almost feel the vitriol coming from downvoters — almost a “fvck this idiot for asking this on our sub” and maybe it’s an exaggeration, but really — why bother to just downvote someone for asking simple questions that could actually encourage some fun conversation? I just feel bad for people that get downvoted with these questions.

Almost just as bad is when people reply with “idk. google it, bruh.” or something to that effect. Just so much uncalled for hate.

anyway, yes I definitely upvote some OP’s and comments that i see get downvoted like that.
