Everlast siding quote, other options?

I was a siding contractor in an extreme coastal environment for a long time. I am always dubious of "lifetime" products. I've seen plenty of them come and go. I've never actually seen this product, but it is an interlocking system much like vinyl or aluminum siding, except, I guess its composite, not vinyl.

With interlocking panels, one of the problems you may encounter is if one piece gets damaged, from say heavy hail or a tree hitting the house, you can't just replace one piece of siding, you may have to replace the entire side, or maybe the entire house if it has faded.

The other issue I have is with an interlocking system, it is only as good as the vapor barrier behind it, because these system is installed somewhat loose to allow for expansion and therefore rely on the vapor barrier to actually keep the water out.

The third issue I have is with a lifetime warranty. Its up to the manufacturer to decide if they are going to honor the warranty and product lines are continually changing, so will your siding be available in 20 years? Will the company still exist? Maybe.

And lastly, 88k sounds outrageous to me, but I don't really know that market. I've done some 2800 soft, 3 story houses, and it was nowhere near that, although its been a while.

After 40 years in the trade I've learned that there is always some sales pitch that claims to solve all your problems. The reality of those pitches is rarely accurate. I would look at some other alternatives. Hardi-board, Smart lap, or maybe even real cedar. These products have been out there for a while.
