Everyone keep a cool head.

I wasn't berating their empathy, I was mocking the idea that they were expressing it too late after the fact to be meaningful. If you broke your leg as a 10 year old and when you were 35 someone found out and responded, "Oh my gosh, are you ok!? Please be ok!!" You would appropriately think that was an extreme and absurd reaction. I know I certainly would.

Empathy is fine, as is my thinking it is entirely misplaced given the time that has passed. A more appropriate response would have been, "I'm sorry for what you had to go through, that sounds upsetting."

I'm not interested in diving into your beliefs, but suffice to say that I don't see where your religion is relevant, and I do not hold the same worldview. I find the idea of holding a position with no evidence worthy of ridicule as any bad idea is.
