why is everyone in med school two-faced about studying?

this is all to familiar. So many people are putting up a front in med school because they can't come to terms with their own insecurities. I experienced the brunt end of those comments like you early on in medical school-- and i fell for it hard. i felt like i always had to "find time" to hang out or justify why i wanted to study and had to confront nasty comments about why "I'm such a gunner" and how i need "to make priorities and find a work-life balance." But when the same people making the nasty comments wanted to study, I never resorted to talking down about it or putting them down for it. I later found out that the person making those comments was a closeted gunner and studied constantly in the wee-hours of the night. You have to just deflect the criticism and forget about it. I noticed that people who make those comments are just hiding their own issues. Don't get sucked into their vortex. Continue being their friends, but maybe separate your "Study life" from them, and it will certainly benefit your friendship in the long term, that is, if they are worth to keep around as a friend. Eventually, they'll come to realize that there's more to life than the front they are putting on.
