Everything these days is related to your race and I hate it.

Being a sort of colour blind towards certain parts of life and people is actually ingrained in the Cultural Identity of my country and has been since the 1500's. But somehow, when I try to explain it, I'm seen as either priviliged or racist. I learned that the hard way when I visited the US back in 2017. Gorgeous country, but note taken, do NOT bring up controversial issues.

Here's a quote I found a little while ago that sums it up:

"The concept of Dutch egalitarianism is the idea that people are equal, especially from a moral point of view, and accordingly, causes the somewhat ambiguous stance they have towards sex, hierarchy, status, race and religion."

The "moral" part in question is the belief that all cultures are independent and equal. Forcing your beliefs, practices or opinions on someone else is considered a social taboo. Even if today it does get thrown out of the window on rare occasions.
