"Evil For Freedom's Sake?" — David Lewis [PDF]

OK, hear me out, please. The gods permit evil because humanity chose evil. The gods would be dictators if they forced us to do good. Goodness performed simply because of coercion is not true goodness.

Evil, in the Confessions of the Last Lowly Warrior, is defined as feudalism. Feudalism is Evil; feudal knowledge is the serpent that entered the garden of e'den. The feudal structure split humanity's natural tribal society, splitting the unified tribal culture into the rulers and the ruled, the castes that define feudal society (the kings and the peasants, the elite and the commoners, the heaven and the earth, the sun and the moon—and in the modern age, the owner and the employee. It was the tree of (feudal) knowledge that entered the (tribal) garden. Since in feudal society the labor class must support the wealthy elite (much as Atlas is said to support the heavens), surrendering the greater part of the resources and wealth they work to create, it seems clear the “forbidden fruit” was the fruit of others people’s labor, resource surplus or prosperity. So the resource surplus taken form the peasant or labor class is forbidden by god.

Since feudalism is evil, the evil of slavery—it makes not sense to say people do “evil for freedom’s sake” because that is like saying, “slavery for freedoms sake. “We are social beings, that mean we are moral tribal beings; unified tribal culture is our natural way and evolved niche; the artificial feudal hierarchy is what constitutes evil for social being since it is at odds with our innate tribal nature, so that (for social beings) tribalism and feudalism constitute good and evil respectively.

We chose feudalism; the fall refers to the fall from tribalism to feudalism; so it is not so much that god allows evil, but that “he” does not force goodness, did not force us to return to tribalism, since “he” knows attempting to force people to do something that is not in their hearts is an exercise in utter folly. The so-called gods were advanced biological beings that visited the earth long ago in the Confessions.

What do you think of the idea that feudal ownership and slavery is what constitutes evil for a humanity whose innate predispositions are tribal in nature?
