Unfortunately for her, reporting the car stolen won’t work in this case because the other person is a co-signer. Legally the car and the debt incurred is their joint responsibility. Once the police are informed or find out that they are co-signers, then they won’t pursue the whereabouts of the car.

My first “adult” car was co-signed for by my mother. In order to exert control over me she used to threaten to report it stolen if I went anywhere that she didn’t approve.
