Ex-Racists of reddit what event or events changed you?

I wasn't a full blown "I hate X because they`re different to me," but mentally justified it because I was half from the place.

I grew up in the UK, and then moved abroad just early enough that I qualified for conscription.

Where I moved a small-ish, but vocal minority hate everything to do with the UK, and the people from it.

I came out of high school jaded and angry because of this minority, and as a result never learned the language in five years of schooling, but still had to join the army for a year.

Mostly got forced to learn the language, finally realised it was in fact, a minority. Called a few people wankers, got into the odd fight, and made some of good friends.
