Why Do We Excuse the Extremes of Capitalism? The Answer Lies in Our Psychology.

Poverty is not the 'natural' human condition. Before agriculture we worked around 15 hours a week, as we had a pretty abundant supply. (When we were done fighting over it.) It is our civility (social contract) that creates poverty. The manors that came shortly after the introduction of agriculture, had much fewer unemployed and homeless living on scraps of other people. The concentration and hardships of poverty have been tracking up, pretty much from the beginning. Depending on how you measure it. While the over all numbers have been coming down in terms of income. The actual cruelty of slavery and trafficking, and the geographically concentrated lack of opportunity, is possibly higher now, then it has ever been.

Capitalism is great, i don't dispute that. But NIT, UBI, vouchers, what ever is most appropriate. Poverty has always been an expensive tool for holding down the price of labor.
