(Expat) Life in Sydney with a baby?

Welcome!

I moved here on an expat agreement 3 years ago, although i was on my own, some of my colleagues have been here with a family. I know childcare here is very expensive.

Depending on where you come from, you may find more or less of a culture shock. It is a beautiful city, with issues like any big city really, but I really like it here. There are plenty of nice family suburbs, but that will depend if you need to commute and where, and what you expect.

There are also downsides for example rental market here is terrible, landlords and agencies have an insane amount of power that would be straight up illegal in Europe like they get to keep the keys and can help themselves periodically into the property for inspection (they have to notify you first) and other not so fun shenanigans.

We have had 2 really wet summers because of La Niña, the weather is usually mild but the insulation is terrible so even though I have spent periods of my life in north european countries I have never felt as cold inside a house than in here even though exterior temperature was like 12 degrees celsius.

IKEA is more expensive here, there is also Fantastic Furniture which is similar and some other offerings for furniture and stuff.
