EXPERIMENT: Steel vs Aluminium. I exposed 2 pots to prolonged high heat on kitchen stove top. Steel (left) simply blackened, while Aluminum (right) began melting! (I think left side is what BFR-Starship will look like after re-entry. Nothing a good dish-scrubbing-pad can't fix!)

So yes, sorry, but I probably should have clarified the pot on the left is actually NOT a "cast iron pot" by definition.

Rather it is actually a nice, new, shiny, silvery, high quality "stainless steel" pot. It normally looks bright silver-like.

I had actually "burnt" this pot once before when I left it on the stove forgotten, and that turned the bottom and outer edges of that pot completely black (much to the dismay of my GF!), like in the current picture.

BUT... it was a VERY easy fix: I simply used a low grade sand paper, and wet-scrubbed it with that sand paper for a few minutes, and rinsed it off, and then voila:

It looked brand spanking new again, shinning with a bright silvery color!

So at any rate... if SpaceX uses a similar quality of stainless steel, I wouldn't be surprised if the final result is a highly blackened looking spaceship, like the pot on the left.

I guess time will tell!
