Explain How would you dump someone?

This is one of the biggest areas where your character will say a lot about you. In any area of life it's always a pretty good idea to be honest, yet tactful. Don't try to lie in order to not hurt them, but at the same time don't be vindictive. Depending on the length of the relationship you may have mutual friends and you don't want to disrupt the social group and create drama. Others like drama and will seek it out, so things that were between you and your significant other, keep them there. If you take advice from a trusted friend or two that's fine, so long as it stays there.

Just confront the issue head on and in person. If you've made your decision going into, be sure. You'll be tempted to change your mind especially if things get emotional. Be direct, be honest that you just don't think it's a good match long term. It's like firing someone, they respect being aware of things where they may be able to improve as a person. Not to say there always are, that just depends on the situation. Anyway, Definitely tell them things that you respect about then too, reminding them why they'll be a good find for someone else

Then keep your distance emotionally. Don't drag them back and forth. Let them move on and don't gossip. If you show character that might be an attractive trait to anyone who hears about you from them or their friends. Which brings me to my next point. If you have interest in any of their friends or vice versa, give that time. Don't create drama. Maybe someday it'll circle back but look elsewhere first.
