Explain to me how to invest in an REIT within my ROTH IRA

I looked at VNQ but its more of a "general" REIT that invests in everything from hotels to malls. Was concerned that it is heavily invested in things that I think will be on the downswing in the next 30 years

Personally, I don't invest in REIT index funds from the standpoint of the REIT sector is made up of a number of different subsectors - everything from malls to data centers to offices to apartments to billboards to cell towers to etc. At any given time, all those subsectors can have very different fundamentals. Personally, I'd rather focus on sub-sectors that are part of longer-term growth themes or ones that aren't that are particularly well-managed.
