F/35/5'2" [234.5>133=101.5 pounds] (14 months)

This is such a long rant to my 6 day old comment but I'll respond anyway.

Really? You really just asked that? Maybe because not EVERYONE that undergoes the surgery has food addiction?

Never said they did.

Dieting doesn't work.

It is the only thing that does. Calories in < Calories out = Weight loss.

Some people can't move.

They can still eat less, right?

Some people have auto immune diseases.

Valid excuse. I'm sorry for those that have debilitating diseases.

Some people have chronic pain.

Shouldn't affect eating habits.

Some people have hormone imbalances.

Doesn't mean you can't eat fewer calories than you burn.

Some people take anti depressants and medications etc.

Very, very few medication really affect weight. And even then, it is small amounts that can either be dealt with or mitigated by diet. There is no reason to be 300 lbs. because of medication.

To think that food is all that contributes to weight gain shows the complete lack of education in this entire thread. Sure, 70% is all about the food you eat, the rest is exercise etc

More like 90% diet, 10% exercise but I guess that's debatable.

lack of sleep, stress, injuries, too much cortisol in the body.

Lack of sleep doesn't force you to eat more. Stress and injuries don't force you to eat more calories than you burn. Too much cortisol is a garbage excuse pushed by drug companies, and even if it was legitimate, it doesn't negate thermodynamics. The people in the camps at Auschwitz had very little sleep, more stress than you could ever imagine, and plenty of injuries, yet not one fat person came out of there. Sorry if that is crass, but it just shows how food works in relation to weight.

genetics

Metabolisms only vary by 200-300 calories per day above or below average. Certainly no reason to be morbidly obese.

Take it from someone who's about to start this journey - having suffered for the past 8 years due to being hit by a car and getting to the point where I can barely walk 10 minutes in a shopping centre - I can't WAIT to not/rarely feel hunger pains.

I'm sorry you went through that, but surely your injury does not affect your hunger?

I struggle to find the need to WANT to eat!

Not sure what this means. Obviously you want to eat because you eat enough to be overweight, correct?

I've never struggled with my weight and was a sport obsessed growing up, eventually in development squad for state basketball. I could eat whatever and whenever.

I would assume that since your activity level has decreased and age has increased, you have not reduced caloric intake to compensate.

These past 8 years managing my chronic pain etc has been so debilitating and my perceptions of what I can and can't eat have been warped by magazines, doctors, diets and ideas from friends

Again I'm sorry that you've gone through that and I'm sure it has been tough, but no one is to blame for your warped ideas but yourself. There are plenty of resources online and otherwise that show how much you eat determines your weight, and that weight loss is simple (not easy, though).

whilst struggling to manage my weight due to being predominately sedentary.

Being sedentary is certainly not good for weight loss, but can definitely be mitigated by just eating the amount of calories your sedentary lifestyle requires.

So yeah, it's not fucking easier.

I struggle to see how this is not the case. The point of your paragraph is that you have not been able to lose weight, despite your efforts (read: because it is difficult). Now you are going to get surgery, and you will be able to lose weight. The surgery will decrease the difficulty of losing weight, therefore it is easier to lose weight after getting the surgery. Pretty straightforward.

And not all patients are food addicts.

Again, never said that.
