Facebook creates a fact-checking exemption for climate deniers - Facebook is "aiding and abetting the spread of climate misinformation. They have become the vehicle for climate misinformation, and thus should be held partially responsible for lack of action on climate change."

Is anyone else uncomfortable that social media companies are being asked/deciding to take over marking what is “true” or “not true?” This is...just a terrible idea.

Today I saw Facebook posts from friends that had been marked as “spreading false information” and shit. Like ok, perhaps that’s true, but WHO made that decision? Some dude at Facebook? What’s going to happen if someday they turn out to be right? Is Facebook going to print a retraction? What use would it be?

The whole president trump-twitter fiasco is quite revealing. I mean even if you hate the guy, it’s problematic that his speech can be shut down by some private company with impunity. Would democrats be as comfortable with Twitter/Facebook deleting THEIR president?

To be clear I am not a trump supporter. But when I see an American president getting silenced based on judgment calls by faceless censors, it is troubling to me.
