Familiarizing yourself with your area?

It might sound a little silly but even studying Google maps can help quite a bit. The area I work had a lot of very rural country/grid territory, as well as a lot of tribal territory. If you want to talk about confusing and nonsensical you should see how the tribes handle house numbers and streets, most houses have two numbers. Numbers correlate to the order they were built. I studied Google maps quite a bit, like some others suggested driving around helps a ton, and if your station has them official printed maps and atlases can also be very useful to study.

My best tip to you is always know where you're going before you start leaving. It's easy to mix up street numbers in your head and end up in the wrong place, take the extra few seconds to map it out.
