i had a border collie and she was the most incredible dog i’ve ever met - insanely intelligent, very sweet, and extremely gentle - until she was around kids. she thought kids needed to be rounded up like sheep so she’d chase them around while growling and nipping at them. we learned very quickly that she could NOT be around children because it was dangerous for them, and for her. border collies, like pitbulls, were bred for a very specific purpose, and it’s unfair to expect them to not act on the instincts that were bred into them for centuries. it’s very unfortunate that people don’t understand that pitbulls are a working breed and that they are not meant to be a house pet. it’s very sad that thousands of them sit in shelters waiting to be euthanized because people are (rightly) scared of adopting them. it’s awful tbh. the dogs don’t deserve the shit lives they’re given. people should not be allowed to breed them in the first place
