Family sues hospital after father dies following 9-hour wait

This is in no way me comparing my experience, but as an Albertan, it's about finding the best hospital. All hospitals should offer the same quality of care but they do not.

I have severe endometriosis and am prescribed Dilaudid every 28 days. I've had a laparoscopy and I'm now seriously considering a hysterectomy even though I'd love to have kids. The pain is just too much, and I lose one week out of every month where I can't leave bed.

Three months ago I went to a hospital that's busy and frequented by drug seekers. I spent six hours there and was given two regular strength Advil. They could see me doubled over in pain and bawling, they could see on my patient history that I've been prescribed Dilaudid every 28 days for five years. But nope. ADVIL.

I didn't bother going home. I sat in the waiting room again, hoping they'd see I wasn't just trying to get high. Five hours later I was given two more Advil.

Finally I decided to go to the hospital in the town where I grew up, 40 minutes away. Within an hour I had been seen and was given a shot of Dilaudid, a shot of Torodol, and a prescription for both.

I understand some hospitals are busier than others, but the quality of care should remain constant.

My tax dollars pay for this healthcare system. If I needed Advil, I would have gone to a walk-in clinic. Hell, I would have gone to the medicentre.
