Fantasy about animals?

Seconding Firebringer - it’s been one of my favourite books for years and I never get to recommend it to anyone. This list is just great in general - I’ve also read and enjoyed The Sight, Silverwing, A Fire Upon the Deep, and Ratha’s Creature. I loved Guardians of Ga’Hoole, Warriors, and Varjak Paw as a kid, but they may be a bit young for what OP is looking for.

I can also add Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton to the list - it’s essentially a Regency romance novel but all the characters are cannibalistic dragons. The Strange Bird novella by Jeff Vandermeer is fantastic and from the point of view of an animal/alien intelligence, but I’m not sure if it will make much sense if you haven’t also read Borne. And finally Dust City by Robert Paul Weston is a fairytale retelling from the point of view of the big bad wolf, although I read it years ago so I can’t vouch for its quality.
