As far as I can tell (new ham), the airwaves in my region are dead. No repeater or simplex traffic on any of the 2m-70cm bands. What should I do?

Do you call out on your local repeaters? There isn't too much rag chewing where I live so if you were scanning it'd seem dead, but chances are if you call out on the more popular repeaters in my area during the day somebody will be listening and respond back.

If that doesn't work then check to see if any of your local repeaters are Echolink enabled. If they are look into Echolink and connect to different Echolink nodes through your local repeater.

You can also use the Echolink PC or smartphone app if you don't have a local repeater with Echolink and talk to different hams through your phone or computer.

Try hooking up with a local club to get some advice from local more experienced hams ARRL associated clubs you can find on ARRL's website. If the clubs you find have a website try and see if they have regular nets, meetings and/or meals and try and attend them.

Field day is also coming up in a couple of weekends June 25-26th check the field day finder to see if there are any local events near you.

If all else fails get in contact with the VE team you tested with they should be able to put you in contact with a local club or some local hams willing to help you out.

Some of this is assuming you're in the US if you're not let us know so we can try to point you in the correct direction.
