Farage blames 'fifth column' for Charlie Hebdo murders

I think that foreign funding of both Mosques and Muslim schools, many of which are funded directly by an extreme sect in Saudi Arabia that has a mission to have these establishments all over the world, is a really easy and in my view obvious first step.

I'm not really confident it would solve the problem on its own, but because of its ease we should get it done. Either fund religious schools from the state, establishing full state regulations over them (although it's worth noting that this didn't work with the recent Trojan Horse plots in England) or make all schools secular and have religion taught as an academic/historical subject, rather than it being baked into the ethos of everything the school does.

Beyond that I don't have any easy answers.

If you take the group of Muslims from an area in Cardiff who went off to Syria and made those propaganda videos to recruit more British Muslims, basically everyone said (including the families) that they knew exactly who radicalised them, the radical Imams, the radical hate preachers, the people within the community who were known to move in those circles and use the local Mosque as fertile ground.

To my knowledge not a single person was arrested as a result of this, so it begs the question that if it's that easy, why are those people still within that community and undoubtedly some of them are still operating in the same way.

The answer is probably as simple as we don't have the evidence to convict them of anything, and our Police and Intelligence services don't have the resources to go on fishing expeditions for anyone who may seem suspicious. Makes sense, but when the next attack comes, or another batch of idiots run off to Turkey, or worse come back with combat training and experience and pull off another Charlie Hebdoe or worse - we have to be honest and say that we knew it was going to happen.

Mosques are understandably a touchy subject, places of worship will never be simple, but almost every home-grown terrorist plot is centred around, and can be traced back to Mosques that everyone knows are hotbeds of Islamist radicalisation and extremism. It's so open that we can even name them, one of the perpetrators of the attacks in Paris is known to have been mentored in prison by a known terrorist who was based in Finsbury Park Mosque, for example.

Perhaps we should literally have infiltrators listening to every sermon at these places, then perhaps we should come down on them like a tonne of bricks when they preach things that are completely incompatible with our way of life, or have a way to deal with speakers invited to these places who say things that I would take as incitement or encouragement.

Prisons are another intense breeding ground, and probably the one we're the least equipped to deal with. Think about it, even when we're able to secure a conviction against someone, they enter prison, come out as bad or worse than when they went in, and along the way radicalise other inmates who otherwise wouldn't be a problem.

How are we not doing anything about that? Break them up, monitor them, prohibit the act - if they don't stop isolate them from the general prison population.

You may read my post and not be very convinced with the answers and I'd agree with you on many of them, I could go further about tackling the ghettos and over-concentration of Muslims in small areas, issues surrounding immigration and border control, dealing better with those receiving training elsewhere then returning etc. but I'd say the main takeaway from my post should be; a) as you say end all foreign funding of Mosques and Muslim schools and b) perhaps beef up control orders and their equivalents so that they aren't so useless and c) come up with a proper, national counter-radicalisation scheme that reaches into schools, Mosques, prisons and community centres.
