Actually, it did. The Enabling Act that was passed by Hitler was completely acceptable as a constitutional amendment. If the Act had been unconstitutional, then there would have been checks and balances to stop it being enforced. As it stands Weimar had a shitty constitution that allowed fascism to take hold.

Here in America the fundamental structure of the separation of power cannot be usurped by constitution amendment. We would have to draft an entirely new constitution via a constitutional convention, which is near impossible to achieve. This ensures that the President cannot become an authoritarian because the power to create and enforce laws is vested in the legislative and judicial branches, which the president can influence, but not control.

This is how Trump was able to issue an executive order banning Muslims and then the Supreme Court could overturn it as unconstitutional.

I re-iterate my point. If your constitution allows a person to suspend basic right and consolidate power as an authoritarian then it is a shitty constitution.
