Fasting while pregnant?

I’m not Muslim so I can’t really offer you any advice about the religious aspect but as someone who works in medical I would be very careful about what you end up doing.

Going without food isn’t particularly concerning for a shorter Ramadan fast, unless you have pre existing conditions - a lot of women have blood sugar spikes and drops while pregnant which could be an issue during a fast, but it sounds like that isn’t the case with you. Fasting can also affect your blood pressure so it’s worth it to talk to your doctor about whether that would be safe for you, especially if you’re in a higher risk category for preeclampsia as fasting from can increase your chance of developing it.

Hydration is a really important factor for pregnancies though and I’d be really hesitant to go so long without any water while so far along. Would it be possible for you to fast from food but still drink water? That way you can still be close to Allah (swt) and ensure baby is getting enough water?

I would also definitely recommend you talk to your prenatal/obgyn physician about this though! There’s a ton of health issues that can come from fasting while pregnant, and while it’s not always a huge issue if you and baby are healthy, it’s definitely worth being very cautious around and talking to a doctor about.
