Fat Rant Friday

  1. A family friend had shoulder surgery yesterday as a result of a fall a while back. She is morbidly obese, has type II diabetes, has major mobility issues, and a long list of related health problems. Needs her husband and friends to do things for her. Doesn't try to improve her diet or lifestyle at all. Eats the unhealthiest foods possible.

MIL made food and brought it over for her...which included fettuccine alfredo and a huge plate of sloppy joes with white buns. I always wince whenever I hear about the food MIL makes for her. MIL says, "Well, that's what she likes and she's old enough to eat what she wants."

MIL is also overweight and a MAJOR sufferer of fatlogic + other mental problems. She also has serious health problems, but doesn't do what's necessary to improve her life.

  1. Another family friend died last night. He was also morbidly obese, had type II diabetes, was on dialysis, had mobility issues, and other related problems. Symptoms sound like he had a massive heart attack. MIL said he was "healthy except for X, Y, and Z." :/

Ummm... I don't understand how anyone can be in this much denial. These people are literally killing themselves. I mean, if seeing your friends DIE because of their obesity, nothing is going to change your thinking.

I feel so sad for people like this. It's really hard to hear about how unnecessarily difficult their lives are. It's frustrating when there are so many enablers around. And my MIL is absolutely an enabler. It's impossible to get through to her. I'm so frustrated.
