The alternative is not coming out at all in a house where they can't waste electricity or going out at dangerous streets unsupervised and getting abused or into gangs even from that age. Social services can't do shit the government won't help them and they are better there than orphanages. Oh and getting someone from those communities to break out from poverty needs the sacrifice of most likely than not a single parent in a shitty wage double time jobs and getting into university it's not guaranteed because limited admission even if the person has the grades, they prioritize people by their background. And even if you have college there are not jobs for a ton of people. And living in rural states is even worse and they would barely finish middle school. So yeah...
