The absolute worst people in this non-debate are hearing people who have a deaf relative or friend, or dabbled in Deaf culture for a bit, and they get on their high horse on behalf of the Deaf community, without knowing exactly what the fuck they're talking about.
Do you know how offensive that is to the Deaf community? Like any community, they have a range of opinions, and in fact every Deaf person I've met has no problem with CI's whatsoever. It's only a handful of extremists who label themselves the "militant" Deaf, and hearing-guilt shitheads like you who do have a problem. The Deaf community doesn't need you or your uninformed opinions to "protect" them. Every anti-CI thing you say just proves how retarded you are.
brain surgery
You don't understand anatomy or what CI surgery actually entails, do you? Granted, there is an offshoot technology called ABI's which attach to the brainstem, but CI electrodes and their surgery have essentially nothing to do with the brain.
Electrodes are inserted into the cochlea, which is part of the inner ear i.e. external to the brain. The cochlea converts vibrations into nerve impulses which are then passed to the auditory nerve, which passes the signal onwards to the brain. Ergo, CI surgery is not brain surgery, and you can stop saying that it is.

unhappy that your child isn't like you
It's nothing to do with making your child more like you. Parents make an informed choice with the guidance of a range of people including Deaf advocates. Two main factors stick out though:
1) we live in a hearing world. Your heart can bleed as much as you like, but nothing will change that. CI's provide a child with access to opportunities that, for right or wrong, are simply not there for the deaf. FACT. And
2) as I said before, a child can have CI's AND embrace their Deaf culture. It's not a black and white issue as you believe it is.
Don't presume to know more than a parent who has actually gone through this process. You will lose every single time if regurgitating militant Deaf FUD is the limit of your knowledge. Kindly do us all a favour and give yourself an uppercut with a chainsaw.
