FBI believed Trump campaign aide Carter Page was recruited by Russians

From a European perspective the solution is obvious. The US is a weak paper tiger, its politicians easily bought and sold and its slack-jawed, uneducated electorate easily swayed by propaganda. That said it has a powerful military and a large market for goods and services, so "owning" America is a good objective. The Russians bought the election so they could keep America out of their backyard by weakening NATO. So why don't the Europeans get in on the act? They have, collectively, far deeper pockets than the Russians. They could easily buy half the politicians Congress and throw some heavy resources into Cambridge Analytica-style targeted Facebook campaigns. It would still be chump change compared to, say, an increased of 2% of their NATO contributions.
