My theory - Trumps got quite a bit of money coming into the US from Russian oligarchs. They're buying up chunks of properties (like the SW Fla. condos that netted him $100 mill). Everyone in Russia with wealth has a line to Putin. He's essential Vladimir Soprano. These Russians are using Trump properties to launder money out of Russia and into the US. Once they have the money here, the FSB starts to turn people into assets, like they did with Page. Page sees a nice payday and he starts lobbying on their behalf along with Manafort and Sessions(?) They want in on some of that sweet-sweet rubbles so they agree to try to push for a Pro Russian platform. Donnie, being a billionaire and celebrity gets convinced by Putin to try to run for President. Locking that up would be a jackpot for them. Sanctions lifted, easier flow of money between the nations. It's a long shot and a huge operation, but even if it fails, he will damage Hillary. Well, they pulled it off. They have their guy who's going to "make the best deals" with them, while fleecing the middle and lower class.
