FD Signifier criticizing Aba & Preach in his Manosphere video

I somehow agree with your first sentence yet disagree with your second. Most video essayists are shit, but I feel like you picked 3 of the best video essayists in your example.

I don't see how Jacob Geller counts at all being that he makes some of the most consistently conscience video essays. His video on Returnal dives so incredibly deeply into the themes of the game and says some really insightful, poignant things about trapping ourselves in cycles of trauma, all based on a cogent reading of the allegorical layer of the game.

Noah Gervais is similarly insightful and while he does make long videos, that's because he's often covering multiple games in a series and is rarely long winded about a single game. His Resident Evil video is 7 hours, but covers 23 games. He seems to pick up on subtleties on both the design and thematic sides of games that almost all other miss. His Alice video is a good example of this.

Tim Rogers I'll give you, but you also have to understand that what he's going for is entirely different than almost any other video essayist out there. He's from a journalistic movement called New Games Journalism and he might be the only person from that movement making video essays.

When I think of the generic shit video essayist I think of either longform response videos like the OP here, or stuff like a 4 hour review of Oblivion that spends 30 minutes talking about the leveling system of Skyrim for no reason. Joseph Anderson for example, who painstakingly goes over every single moon in Mario Odyssey and accomplishes nothing doing it.
