I fear I have become the very thing I've worked so hard to avoid.

Maybe you are just burned out. Happened to me. I was the same as you... always saying or doing the wrong things. Always the one who the CEO was aggravated with. Always the one people sort of looked sideways at when I said anything. Starting to be left out of key decisions, left off important emails or not invited to important meetings any longer.

Age discrimination does start to play a role. When you get to be 50ish people start to take you less seriously. I was once a Jedi Knight of my company. Eventually I was considered more just an overpaid weirdo. I was with my company 20 years. Sound familiar?

In my case I needed a change. I should say WE needed a change. Both me and the company. I quit and opened my own business. It was right for me, and the company that kept be well paid for two decades. I don't make yet what I did then. But I'm getting closer. They moved on. I moved on. No hard feelings either way.

It takes a lot of courage to do this. But in the end at least for me it was what I needed. Couldn't see going on the way it was much longer. My advice... get out while you're still young enough to enjoy it. Follow your dreams. Pursue happiness.
