I Fear For UT4

We've never received a real, bona fide UT99-2, and that was by far the most successful iteration of UT. I guess there's always hope that the Epic developers will figure that out and stop wasting time trying to reinvent and improve upon the wheel and just produce a first rate UT99-2 with the new UT 2004 game types and a UT version of Battle Royale to bring people in. It won't happen, but one can dream, I suppose.

Nope, its gone.

Ut99 was the most successful iteration because it came out in 1999, during the arena shooter boom. You can't keep recycling a game that was successful 20 years ago and think it'll fare the same today.

That's right.

I think UT99 was the most successful because it had the most straightforward game play, and unlike UT 2004, it wasn't about fancy floaty-dodgey moves that put an emphasis on shock rifle primary hitscan. UT99 just had a perfect chemistry in the feel of its movement and overall game play. You could still find more people playing UT99 CTF than UT 2004 in, say, 2006. Something about UT 2004's movement drove people away from non-vehicular "on foot" games

Like movie sequels have to be more outrageous or be accused of bringing nothing new to the table. These were big for their day but fall short of what is out there now.

Enjoy the classics for what they are or else you will get "Mad Max" reboots that blow penis. It was an 80's genre that has no place in this MMA/Kale shake world.

For example: That new cyberpunk show "Altered Carbon" for netflix advertises "intense martial arts action" which is reflective of the times we live in now. There was a time when a simple punch or a kick ended the foes.

A new Duke Nukem would be unrecognizable, played by a Canadian actor that apologized for being mean. That time is over here in the states and art copies life as much as life copies art... =Kale Shakes and MMA.
